Are New York police officers engaging in a work slowdown?

Tickets and summonses for minor offense have dropped 94 percent, parking violations have dropped 92 percent and arrests have dropped 66 percent compared to this time last year, The New York Post reports.

This drastic reduction in police work comes in the aftermath of the shooting deaths of NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos earlier this month. A shooter, motivated by recent police killings, ambushed and killed the officers while they were sitting in their patrol car.

Two precincts — where Liu and Ramos worked and where they were killed — have only issued one ticket total in the week following the killing, the New York Daily News reports.

Sources told the New York Post that the slowdown is a result of cop’s frustration with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and a fear for their safety.

NYPD did not respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment by publication.

NYPD officers have publicly demonstrated against the mayor by turning their backs to him on multiple occasions because of the attacks, further stirring the controversy over police violence.

The conversation over police violence garnered national attention with the shooting death of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. Multiple deaths of blacks at the hands of police have fueled the flame of the growing movement protesting police violence.

On the west coast, officers are on high alert after two gunmen targeted LAPD officers.

recent autopsy showing that an LAPD fatally shot an unarmed black man in the back has fueled more protesters and unrest.
