An Indiana couple faces charges of child neglect and recklessness with a deadly weapon after police found cellphone video showing the pair encouraging the woman’s 12-month-old daughter to play with a .40-caliber handgun.
“Say bang,” a man is heard saying on the video, which Evansville police recovered after searching the 19-year-old man’s phone following his arrest for attempting to sell an illegal firearm to police, according to the Associated Press.
“Bang. Bang. Bang. Shoot that thing, fat baby,” the man says, as the child is seen wielding the gun and putting it into her mouth.
“Say pow, pow,” the man repeats over and over, as the girl’s mother offers similar encouragement in the background.
The woman reportedly told authorities that the weapon was a pellet gun, but police say it is a .40-caliber handgun.
It is unclear whether the gun had ammunition in it while the girl was playing with it.
