New York Jets running back Chris Johnson was arrested on Friday night in Florida.
Orlando Police Department officers pulled Johnson over after he rolled through a stop sign. Upon a consensual search of his vehicle, officers found Johnson’s licensed, registered handgun stashed in a book bag under a seat.
Since the handgun was not properly stored, cops slapped Johnson with an open carrying of a firearm charge. While this is only a second-degree misdemeanor, it definitely isn’t a good way to start the off-season.
The Jets told ESPN they “are aware and have no comment at this time, as this is a pending legal matter.” Johnson just finished his first season with New York, and it was a statistical low-point in his career. Totaling only 663 yards and 1 rushing touchdown, it is unknown if this off-field incident will impact “Cop Speed’s” future with the team.
