The New York Rangers selected goalie Brandon Halverson with their first pick in the 2014 NHL draft.

While New York clearly expects big things from the 18-year-old Michigan native, somebody better tell Halverson that goalies’ aren’t expected to score goals before he gets called up to the big club.

While tending the net for the Saul Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League on Thursday, Halverson accidentally sent the puck directly into his own goal.

Rookie mistake.

Despite his bone-headed move, Halverson was able to laugh at himself on Twitter following the Greyhounds’ win.
