Ernie Banks — the Chicago Cubs’ Hall-of-Fame shortstop and first baseman — passed away Friday night in Chicago, ABC reports.
He was 83 years old.
A fan favorite, “Mr. Cub” was the first African American player in team history. Banks played all 19 seasons of his MLB career with Chicago. His career highlights include 512 homeruns, back-to-back National League MVP awards in 1958 and 1959 and 14 All-Star appearances.
R.I.P. Ernie Banks. You will be missed.
