NBC Nightly News ran a 10th anniversary promo in October 2014 hailing anchor Brian Williams for his “battle scars.”

Williams is now under fire for exaggerating, if not fabricating, a story about taking enemy fire in a helicopter in Iraq. (VIDEO: Fox Host: ‘Inexplicable’ Brian Williams Could Have Made An ‘Honest Mistake’)

“Some battle scars are worn on the inside,” Michael Douglas narrates, “worn by things you’ve seen you can never forget. Experiences that move you, inspire you, change you. And for anyone who’s been there, it’s a secret. It doesn’t harden you. It makes you human.”

Among the images in the promo is Williams interviewing a veterans on the beaches of Normandy, and smiling while clapping a fatigue-wearing soldier on the shoulder. “He’s been there,” the text reads at the end. “He’ll be there.”
