Lawmakers will gather Wednesday at the Capitol to dedicate a new statute of former Arizona senator and conservative champion Barry Goldwater.

Speaker of the House John Boehner’s office says the new statue, chosen by the Arizona legislature, will be included in the Statuary Hall collection.

Those expected to take part in Wednesday’s dedication ceremony include Boehner, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Goldwater, while mobilizing young conservatives, handily lost the 1964 election to Democrat Lyndon Johnson. He served in the Senate until 1987 and died in 1998.
