Democratic Rep. Charlie Rangel said on MSNBC’s “Ronan Farrow Daily” Tuesday that if ISIS is a threat, President Obama should call “on all Americans to be drafted,” or else the poor and middle class will “carry the burden” of the war. “I also hope that the president would be able to discuss with us as to what is the threat to America’s national security with this horrific war that’s been going on for centuries in the Middle East,” he said. (There isn’t a war in the Middle East that’s been going on for centuries, but it seems fair to assume he was talking about US military actions against ISIS.)

“And if it is a threat, is he calling upon all Americans to be drafted? Is he calling on taxpayers to pay for it?” Rangel continued. “Or will this heavy burden be carried by the poor and middle class and will not make younger people who volunteer because they lack economic opportunity, they will be once again to carry the burden without a declaration of war?”
