After 17 years and 19 Emmy Awards, Jon Stewart announced he would be leaving The Daily Show at some point this year. His final day is yet to be determined, he said details are yet to be finalized but it could be September, December or even July.
While a press release made the announcement to the world, Stewart broke the news to his stunned studio audience at the end of the show’s taping Tuesday.
Saying “17 years is the longest I have ever, in my life, held a job by 16 years and 5 months,” Stewart to the crowd, “In my heart I know it is time for someone else to have that opportunity.”
In the end he thanked the audience, fans, and even those who “hate-watched” the show.
