Democrats have chosen Philadelphia as the place they will gather in 2016 to nominate their candidate for president, the Democratic National Committee announced Thursday.

“In addition to their commitment to a seamless and safe convention, Philadelphia’s deep rooted place in American history provides a perfect setting for this special gathering,” DNC chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said. “I cannot wait to join Democrats across the country to celebrate our shared values, lay out a Democratic vision for the future, and support our nominee.”

Republicans will also hold their convention in a swing state — the RNC announced last year that they will hold their convention in Cleveland, Ohio.

Prior to Thursday’s announcement, the Democrats had narrowed down their list of potential locations to Columbus, New York and Philadelphia.

Two other cities — Phoenix and Birmingham — vied to hold the DNC convention too.

The convention is set to take place July 25, 2016.
