Doctors removed Whitney Houston’s daughter’s breathing tube Wednesday as she remains in critical condition.
Bobbi Kristina underwent the tracheotomy to help prevent infection from her feeding tube she has had since she was found face down and unresponsive in the bathtub of her Atlanta home Jan. 31. An ENT specialist at Lennox Hill Hospital told USA Today that this procedure is typically done when patients “are expected to be on a ventilator for more than a couple of days.”

The 21-year-old is still in a medically induced coma, and there have been conflicting reports over her condition. At one point, doctors reportedly told Bobby Brown that there was little they could do and left the decision about removing her from life support up to him.
