About 800,000 Obamacare enrollees received incorrect tax information from the government, and were told Friday not to file taxes until the mistake is corrected.

One-fifth of the forms the government sent to enrollees through HealthCare.gov for tax purposes were incorrect, so officials urged the 800,000 taxpayers not to file until they get the corrected forms, reported The New York Times.

Officials said they didn’t know why the error had occurred, but taxpayers can expect to get the corrected information the first week of March. They warned taxpayers some will owe more and some will owe less than they think when they get the new data.

Many taxpayers are expected to face unexpected costs when they file their returns this year, because they received subsidies based on inaccurate income information. (RELATED: Obamacare Clawback To Hit Some Subsidy Recipients With Huge Tax Bill)

The regular enrollment period ended Sunday, and the Obama administration warned consumers it was their last chance to enroll for the year. Democrats have been urging Obama to allow the “special enrollment period” during tax filing season, to avoid backlash from millions of people who will only now realize they will face a penalty if they don’t have lawful healthcare.

The Obama administration announced Friday it would allow a special enrollment period, from March 15 to April 30. But officials said the special chance will not be repeated again.

As many as six million people will have to pay a tax penalty because they weren’t lawfully insured in 2014, Treasury officials told The New York Times. Although federal officials have come up with dozens of exemptions to help taxpayers avoid the fine.
