A new poll reveals people are pushing for a conservative voice on Comedy Central after the departures of Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart.

Comedian Dennis Miller beat out “Daily Show” correspondent John Oliver and the embattled former “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams to replace John Stewart as host of “The Daily Show,” according to a Quinnipiac poll released Monday.

“Two comedians, both former Saturday Night Live mock news readers, lead the pack to fill Jon Stewart’s chair,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll. “Dennis Miller is the favorite of 24 percent of Republicans. Tina Fey, with her dead-on take on Sarah Palin, is the darling of 26 percent of Democrats.”

Miller and Fey placed in a dead heat among those polled, with Fey receiving 19 percent of the vote and Miller taking 16 percent, which is within the margin of error. Thirty-seven percent of people did not know who they would like to fill the position.

The gaps in votes are aligned clearly along party gender lines, as well, with Fey pulling in 23 percent of women and Miller getting 21 percent of men.

Former late night television host Craig Ferguson and Chelsea Handler, who recently signed a deal with Netflix, took home 7 percent and 5 percent of the vote, respectively.

Miller stepped out of his role as syndicated radio host earlier this month. Is he gearing up for a run at “The Daily Show” desk? Probably not, but if voters called the shots he could have a good chance.
