Iranian Christians Demand UN Fight Against ISIS

Hundreds of Assyrian Christians gathered in front of the United Nations building in Tehran, Iran to implore the international community to take action against the Islamic State, which has devastated the Assyrian community in Iraq and Syria.

ISIS has “destroyed Assyrian monuments in Syria and Iraq,” organizer Hovik Behboud told the Agence France Press news outlet. “We ask the international community, especially the U.N., to hold a Security Council meeting” to decide on military intervention.

The protest is in response to ISIS’ demolishing of ancient Assyrian cultural treasures in the city of Nimrud, Iraq last week, which can be seen below.
