The Associated Press is reporting that someone actually paid well over a million dollars Tuesday for the original manuscript of Don McLean’s “American Pie.”

The manuscript sold during an auction at Christie’s on Tuesday for $1.2 million, to be exact.

The 16-page manuscript included typed drafts, and it took only four minutes for the price to go from $500,000 to its selling price of $1.2 million.

McLean said that penning the 1971 song, which he did in Philadelphia, was “a mystical trip into his past.”

OK.

Definitely worth $1.2 million.

Keep in mind that you can Google the lyrics for free.
