Lauren Hill — the inspirational Mount St. Joseph women’s basketball player — has passed away at the age of 19.
Lauren committed to play at Mount St. Joseph in Oct. of 2013, but she was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare form of inoperable brain cancer. She was given less than a year to live, but Lauren never gave up on her dream of playing college basketball.
Finally, in November of last year, Lauren achieved her goal, suited up and scored the first points of the year (RELATED: Terminally Ill College Basketball Player Scores First Points Of 2014-2015 Season)
She called it the best day of her life.
Lauren would go on to achieve much more in her final few months. Hill appeared in four more games this season, totaling 10 points, raised nearly $2 million dollars for DIPG research through her #LayupForLauren campaign and received an honorary doctorate in humane letters from Mount St. Joseph in February.
R.I.P. Lauren Hill. You will be missed.
