New York Times political correspondent Jonathan Martin said on CNN’s “Inside Politics” that the Republican Party was driven by “white resentment politics.” (RELATED: Salon Declares That Literally All White People Are Racist)

Martin was reacting to comments from National Rifle Association executive vice president Wayne LaPierre that President Barack Obama meant to hand the presidency off to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, and that “eight years of one demographically symbolic president is enough.”

“That’s not the face that Jeb Bush wants on the top of their party,” Martin said. “If you surveyed 10 GOP strategists and showed them that clip and said, ‘Is the face you want for your party?’ 10 out of 10 would say, ‘No, it’s not.'”

“I mean, this is the challenge they have is that a part of their base is driven by, you know, a sort of white resentment politics,” he continued. “And how do you overcome that in a country increasingly diverse while at the same time keeping the folks in your party energized who are in politics because they have those views? It’s not an easy balancing act. … They are going to have to address it.”
