Sofia Vergara’s Ex-Fiance: Keeping Embryos Frozen Is Just Like ‘Killing Them’

Sofia Vergara’s ex-fiance is trying to get control of the couples’ frozen embryos they created back in 2013 when they tried in vitro fertilization. Though he is no longer with Vergara, Nick Loeb still wants to bring the embryos to term and raise the children, with him taking on “full parenting responsibilities.”

On Thursday, he penned an op-ed in The New York Times titled “Our Frozen Embryos Have a Right to Live,” and argued that keeping the embryos “frozen forever is tantamount to killing them.”

“Shouldn’t a man who is willing to take on all parental responsibilities be similarly entitled to bring his embryos to term even if the woman objects?”

“When we create embryos for the purpose of life, should we not define them as life, rather than as property? Does one person’s desire to avoid biological parenthood (free of any legal obligations) outweigh another’s religious beliefs in the sanctity of life and desire to be a parent?”

The couple split last year, and Loeb credits it to an ultimatum he gave the “Modern Family” actress over having children.

Vergara, who is now engaged to actor Joe Manganiello, doesn’t want the embryos destroyed, just kept frozen.

“Vergara has never suggested that she wished to have the embryos destroyed,” said a statement from her lawyer. “She has always maintained that they be kept frozen, a fact of which Loeb and his counsel have always been aware, despite Loeb’s statements to the contrary.”

“Vergara, who has happily moved on with her life, is content to leave the embryos frozen indefinitely as she has no desire to have children with her ex, which should be understandable given the circumstances.” (RELATED: Sofia Vergara Shows Off Curves In Sheer Red Dress [PHOTOS])
