Ben Carson on Thursday is headed back home to Baltimore, where the Republican presidential candidate plans to meet with “faith and community leaders,” presumably about the city’s recent unrest.

According to his campaign, Carson will appear Thursday afternoon at the Bilingual Church of Baltimore. “Dr. Carson spent 36 years working in Baltimore, 29 years as director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital,” his campaign said.

After riots, arson and looting broke out in Baltimore last week in response to the death of Freddie Gray, Carson released a statement saying: “I urge parents, grandparents and guardians to please take control of your children and do not allow them to be exposed to the dangers of uncontrolled agitators on the streets.”

“As a former resident of the city of Baltimore, it is very unfortunate to see the destruction taking place by irresponsible individuals,” Carson said. “It is vital to remember that the best way to create positive change is through peaceful conversation and policy ideas that display a commitment to resolution. My thoughts and prayers are extended to those who are experiencing fear during this troubling time.”
