The Clinton Foundation Would Like You To Stop Asking Questions Now

Of course the Clinton Foundation is a charity. The only question is: Who benefits?

If you take that question seriously, if you hold the Clintons to the same standards as everyone else, they’ll try to strong-arm you. Gabriel Sherman, New York magazine:

After being the subject of a spate of negative newspaper accounts about potential conflicts of interest and management dysfunction this winter — long before Clinton Cash — the Clinton Foundation wound up on a “watch list” maintained by the Charity Navigator, the New Jersey–based nonprofit watchdog…

Since March, the Foundation has embarked on an aggressive behind-the-scenes campaign to get removed from the list. Clinton Foundation officials accuse the Navigator of unfairly targeting them, lacking credible evidence of wrongdoing, and blowing off numerous requests for a meeting to present their case…

Navigator executives counter that the Foundation has demanded they extend the Clintons special treatment. They also allege the Foundation attempted to strong-arm them by calling a Navigator board member…

One source told me that last year, a senior adviser lobbied the Foundation to appoint a Republican co-chairman to its board, which was stacked with Clinton loyalists. The adviser submitted a list of GOP names. “It was to shield [the Clintons] from the things they’re reading about now,” the source said. “It didn’t happen.”

It sounds to me like that last “idea” was to insulate the Clintons by setting up a Republican to be the fall guy. I’m sure they could’ve found somebody who would take their money to take a dive. But apparently, the Clintons are so paranoid about Republicans that they won’t even allow one close enough to get stabbed in the back.

Does anybody really believe that the Clintons aren’t corrupt? Yeah, yeah, I know Democrats have to play make-believe because they’re stuck with Hillary. But have they actually convinced themselves that there’s no fire beneath all this smoke? Is doublethink really that powerful?

I’m gonna go ahead and say yes. That’s the only explanation for the world we live in and the people we keep putting in charge of it.
