The New York City Police shot a man Wednesday at 37th Street and 8th Avenue, who allegedly attacked 3 women with a hammer. Closed circuit video of the incident was released by the NYPD.

NYPD chief of Manhattan detectives William Aubry told reporters an officer shot a man when he swung a hammer at his partner’s face.

When the police approached the suspect, the assailant pulled the hammer out of a bag and started swinging, source said, told The NY  Daily News.

“He comes right at them and starts swinging the hammer,” the source told the NYDN. “The female officer falls to the ground and the male officer opens fire.”

The female officer attempted to escape the perpetrator but he kept on swinging the hammer, the source explained.

According to reports, the NYPD used video and facial recognition technology to find the suspect.
