A man near the White House was arrested Thursday after he tried to launch a drone near the fence.
Authorities aren’t sure what the man was trying to do with the drone. He may have been trying to take aerial photos of the White House, an official close to the situation told The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.
Parks around the White House were placed on lock down, though the lockdown was lifted shortly after, CNN reported.
President Barack Obama was not at the White House at the time of the incident.
The incident comes just one day after the Federal Aviation Administration announced a public outreach campaign to remind people they are not allowed to fly drones near the White House.
In fact, it’s against federal law to fly a drone within 15 miles of the city, and those who do could face a fine and up to a year in prison.
The White House has seen its fair share of intruders in recent history. Just four months ago a drunk U.S. spy crashed a drone on the White House lawn.
The man and some buddies had just finished up a fun night of drinking at an apartment near the White House and decided to take out the drone. They crashed the drone and the Secret Service put the White House on lockdown.
The man eventually confessed to his bosses at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, but was never charged with a crime.
In early March, two high-level Secret Service agents were arrested after they drunkenly plowed their car into security barricades at the White House after a long night of drinking and driving.
And finally, just last month, a 4-year-old somehow managed to get through the White House security gate and make his way on to the property.
The National Capital Planning Commission announced last week it would be adding spikes to the top of the security fence outside the White House in response to all the recent incidents.
According to a project proposal submitted with the spike idea, it was found they reduce the threat of an intruder to “an acceptable level.”
