After being threatened with indefinite jail time, a Florida mom cried Friday as she signed the consent form allowing her 4-year-old son to be circumcised.

Heather Hironimus had been battling in two separate courts to keep the child’s father from going through with the procedure when she took the boy and hid in a domestic violence shelter last week, the Palm Beach Post reported.

She was found, arrested and appeared in court Friday.

Hironimus initially refused to sign the form, but was later persuaded when a judge in the Palm Beach County Circuit Court told her she would not be released from jail if she didn’t agree to the circumcision.

In 2012 Hironimus signed a parenting agreement with the father of the child which would allow for the circumcision. A judge ruled in March that she violated this agreement.

Judge Jeffrey Gillen said in signing the form it would remove Hironimus’s contempt of court charge, though she still faces a bond hearing for criminal charges related to interfering with child custody. The date for that hearing has not yet been set, according to the Sun Sentinel.

She could face up to five years in prison for the charge.

The judge in the most recent case ordered the two parents to try better to get along, but temporarily gave unilateral power to the boys father to make healthcare decisions.

The couple will create a new parenting agreement in a future hearing.
