George Pataki, the former three-term Republican governor of New York who was in office during the 9-11 attacks, said Thursday he is running for president.

In a 4-minute video posted online, Pataki said: “If we are to flourish as a people, we have to fall in love with America again.”

The video emphasizes Pataki’s service after September 11, 2001, showing the former governor viewing the new Freedom Tower in New York City where the World Trade Center once stood. “I’ve been up in that tower. That’s exactly what we hoped. That we would not just rebuild what was here, but build higher and taller and soar to new heights and show people we weren’t going to think smaller or live afraid.”

Pataki, barely registering in some polls, enters the race as a long-shot. The pro-choice Republican is expected to run as a more moderate option in the race.
