The opportunity to confront a century of sectarian animosity may come in the form of a Tinder-style dating app meant to pair Palestinians and Israelis for casual meet ups.

Ancient blood feuds aside though, creator Matthew Nolan still wants your selfies.

“Even if you’re Jewish and you’ve never been to Israel or you’re Arabic but don’t have direct ties to Palestine, I still want a selfie of you on a date,” said Nolan. A Detroit native who works as a software engineer and a professional dating coach in New York City, Nolan has high hopes for his novel app.

Named after the city of ill-fated lovers Romeo and Juliet, Verona follows Tinder’s model. Users swipe left or right to indicate interest. When two people match, swiping right on each others’ profiles, they can message on the app.

“World peace, one swipe at a time,” boasts Verona’s website. The app has between 1,000 and 2,000 users, and the terms Palestinian and Israeli can be used broadly, according to VICE.

“Is my app going to spark world peace? As much as I would love to take credit for igniting world peace, it’s going to take a lot more than my app, but it’s a step in the right direction. It’s a shift,” Nolan told VICE.

The app was released in late March and is only available for Android. Nolan hopes to release the iOS version in June, according to Digital Trends.
