To dodge a question under oath, Bill Clinton once famously said “It depends upon what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is.”

But MSNBC host Ed Schultz pretty much matched that chicanery at his own deposition by repeatedly requesting that Mark Lane, the lawyer for Michael Queen, provide definitions of words that that just about any fifth grader would know.

Some highlights:

Lane asked Schultz if he was ever sued before Queen filed his federal complaint against him in 2011. Seems simple enough—but Schultz stonewalled with all the deftness of a meth head bull in a china shop.

Mark Lane: How many times have you discussed a complaint filed against you in the United States District Court? How many times have you discussed that on a radio show?

Ed Schultz: I don’t know.

Mark Lane: Often?

Ed Schultz: Often? I would say no. What’s your definition of “often”?

Mark Lane. Well, let’s forget about that.

Lane also asked Schultz about the first time Queen approached Schultz and discussed getting him a TV show.

Ed Schultz: I met him in the hallway of NBC at Nebraska Avenue in Washington, D.C.

Mark Lane: And was anyone else present for that meeting?

Ed Schultz: Yes.

Mark Lane: Who else was there?

Ed Schultz: My wife, Wendy Schultz, and my radio producer and employee, James Holm.

Mark Lane: Did you have a conversation with Mr. Queen at that meeting?

Ed Schultz: What’s your definition of a “meeting”?

Schultz was asked about efforts by Michael Queen to find an apartment for him and his second wife Wendy–who displayed her wifely duties at the trial by handing Schultz mints which he then devoured with the ferocity of some kind of wild boar.

Lane: All right. Did Mr. Queen or anyone associated with him, to your knowledge, arrange for an apartment for you in Washington, D.C.?

Schultz: What’s your definition of “arrange”?
