The South Carolina police officer caught on video fatally shooting Walter Scott as he ran away has been indicted.

A grand jury has indicted former North Charleston police officer Michael Slager on a murder charge in the April 4 shooting, CNN reports. There is not yet a trial date, and he faces 30 years to life in prison if convicted.

“The jury will make up its own mind after it sees the video and hears the other testimony,” South Carolina prosecutor Scarlett Wilson said.

The officer said he pulled Scott, a 50-year-old black man, over for a broken brake light, but that Scott tried to grab his stun gun.

A video taken by a bystander clearly shows Scott running away when the shots are fired. Slager fired eight shots and five hit Scott. He is in jail without bond.

Slager has been fired from the department, and his attorney has declined to comment on the case to the media.
