It was another violent weekend in our nation’s capital, with one person dead and at least 14 people recovering from gunshot or stab wounds.

One woman died Sunday night in what is being called a domestic dispute after she was stabbed near the U Street Corridor, one of the city’s most popular nightlife destinations, according to The Washington Post.

Three other people were hurt in the altercation, with one still in serious condition, and a suspect in police custody.

NBC Washington reported that four other people were stabbed at around 2 a.m. earlier that day in Chinatown, close to the Verizon Center. Police have someone in custody, though the victims have not been identified.

Two people were also shot on Sunday in separate incidents in Southeast D.C.

The previous day, eight people were shot in five different early morning shootings across the city in just two hours.

Three people were shot just after 2 a.m. in Southwest D.C., a man was shot in Northwest D.C. around 1:20 a.m. and three people were shot in Southeast D.C. between 12 and 1:15 a.m.

None of the shootings were fatal.

The violent spike came the same weekend as hundreds of people gathered for the memorial of a local D.C. journalist who was murdered last week as she waited for a bus.

The woman, Charnice Milton, 27, was transferring buses at a station in Southeast D.C. when the intended target of the attack grabbed her and used her to take the bullet for him.

The gunman was passing on a dirt bike and opened fire, missing the target and hitting Milton. Police released a surveillance video of the attack that shows seven dirt bikes and ATVs with 14 people riding them.
