Have you ever wanted a fresh, warm donut at the most inopportune time? Maybe you’re stuck at work, or just a little too lazy to walk or drive to the nearest Dunkin’ Donuts. Have no fear–a new Dunkin’ Donuts smartphone app is here!

On Monday, Dunkin’ Donuts jumped on the “on-demand economy” train. To keep up with competitive rivals, like Starbucks and McDonald’s, Dunkin’ is looking into the possibility of delivery services with new mobile ordering technology.

According to The Boston Globe, Nigel Travis, the chief executive the Dunkin’ Brands Group, said in an interview with CNBC that delivery is a “big opportunity.”

While this seems like a no-brainer for not just Dunkin’ Donuts but all food services, there are some issues that complicate delivery services. Unlike pizzas, donuts cannot retain their heat in delivery. This may have the potential to reflect negatively on the brand, according to Darren Tristano, an executive vice president at Technomic Inc.

Even with this slight critique, Tristano predicts that Dunkin’ Donuts’s delivery service has the potential to increase sales by appealing to those unable to go in-house to eat some of these delicious donuts.

The donut chain’s delivery and mobile app introduction is being led by Scott Hudler, global vice president of consumer engagement.

Fingers crossed that donuts can be dropped off at your doorstep!
