John Hurt has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

The British actor, best known for his roles in “The Elephant Man” and as Mr. Ollivander in the Harry Potter franchise, made the announcement in a statement Tuesday. He said he remains “more than optimistic” about his diagnosis.

“I have always been open about the way in which I conduct my life and in that spirit I would like to make a statement,” the 75-year-old said in a statement.
