Former Democratic Sen. Jim Webb could announce his decision soon about entering the presidential race, The Daily Caller has learned.
A Webb adviser signaled in recent days that an announcement could be made as early as Friday during a trip to Clinton, Iowa, but that’s not happening anymore.
“Had thought we might announce this weekend but alas not,” an adviser said Wednesday.
Should he mount a campaign for the Democratic nomination for president, Webb would run as a different sort of Democrat.
An anti-war economic populist from Virginia, Webb made news Wednesday by defending those in the South who display the Confederate battle flag.
“This is an emotional time and we all need to think through these issues with a care that recognizes the need for change but also respects the complicated history of the Civil War,” he said.
