Former President Jimmy Carter argued Tuesday Jesus Christ would “approve” of gay marriage if he were around in an interview with HuffPost Live’s Marc Lamont Hill.

Carter offered up his support for the recent Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage nationwide, while using Jesus to prop up his reasoning.

“I believe he would, I believe Jesus would,” Carter said, “I don’t have any verse in Scripture —”

“No, no, no, just intuitively, yeah,” Hill told the former president.

“I believe that Jesus would approve of gay marriage, but I’m not — that’s just my own personal belief,” Carter continued. “I think Jesus would encourage any sort of love affair that was honest and sincere, and was not damaging to anyone else. And I don’t think that gay marriage damages anyone else.”
