U.S. law enforcement arrested more than 10 suspected Islamic State supporters in the past month, several of whom may have been planning Fourth of July attacks.

Suspects were radicalized by Islamic State recruitment efforts online, FBI Director James B. Comey told The Washington Post Thursday.

Islamic State’s call for violence during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, coinciding with Independence Day, upped the threat of attack, according to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey at a press briefing July 1.

Deadly terror attacks in France, Kuwait and Tunisia on the same day in June highlighted the risk of Islamic State-inspired, lone-wolf attacks on U.S. soil. (RELATED: ISIS Launches Attacks On Three Different Continents On Single Day)

Islamic State has threatened U.S. military personnel, releasing a 100-name hit list online and urging supporters to kill them. In addition to controlling territory that spans Iraq and Syria, Islamic State garners support abroad by its aggressive propaganda campaign on social media.

Law enforcement officials have arrested several Americans linked to Islamic State, including a Colorado woman who fell in love with a jihadi online and planned to join the terror group in Syria.

In another case, a 17-year-old boy from Prince William County admitted to running a pro-Islamic State Twitter account and helping a young man join the group. (RELATED: New Details On Virginia Teen Turned ISIS Recruiter: ‘We Were Hipsters. We Liked ISIS Before It Was Popular’)
