One day after he was attacked for critical comments he made about Sen. John McCain, 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump said “McCain has done nothing to help the veterans except talk” during Sunday’s broadcast of “This Week,” and “he will do more for veterans” than any of the other potential candidates.

Trump told ABC’s Martha Raddatz — who was filling in for George Stephanopoulos — that “he was horribly disappointed with John McCain because the vets in this country are… living in hell.” Additionally, Trump added that McCain, “owes [the people of Arizona] an apology,” for calling them “crazies” obsessed with the issue of immigration.

Trump also clarified his Saturday comments about POWs:

TRUMP: People that fought hard and weren’t captured and went through a lot, they get no credit. Nobody even talks about them. They’re forgotten, and I think that’s a shame if you want to know the truth. People that were not captured… those are heroes also… I want to give them credit because, frankly, they don’t get the credit. John McCain gets credit. He was elected a senator… and we give him all the credit. It was in the report, from Sharyl Atkisson, it says I said four times I said “he is a hero,” but people choose little selective — like you try to do — little selective pieces. If you read what I say, or if you watch what I say… there was nothing wrong.
