A Tennessee man ambushed a female cop at her home Tuesday, but got more than he bargained for.

Police say Allan F. White waited outside the home of Bradley County Sheriff’s Deputy Tiffany Oakley before attacking her, The Chattanoogan reports.

Oakley was on the night shift and came home for her lunch break when White allegedly pounced on her.

“He tackled her and they got in a scuffle and he took his hands and put them around her face and tried to kill her,” Sheriff Eric Watson told WRBCTV News. But Oakley was able to pull out her weapon and fire a single fatal shot.

“She’s taking it pretty rough,” Watson told WRBCTV News. “Anytime a deputy goes home that’s their castle, their place. At this time we have no idea what the man was stalking her house for. He was clearly on her property and close to her front door.”

Oakley said she had never seen the man before. He had a mile long criminal record, including three outstanding felony warrants.

“It was a pretty strenuous fight and she was bruised up pretty good. From what I heard, he was out to do her in it surely sounded like,” Ramsey told the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Watson said that anger towards police generally was a possible motive.

Oakley was put on paid administrative leave, per policy, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
