The animal right’s group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is sounding more like ISIS after it called for the execution of an American dentist who killed a popular lion in Zimbabwe, Time reports.

“Hunting is a coward’s pastime,” said PETA President Ingrid Newkirk in the statement. “If, as has been reported, this dentist and his guides lured Cecil out of the park with food so as to shoot him on private property, because shooting him in the park would have been illegal, he needs to be extradited, charged, and, preferably, hanged.”

The dentist, Walter James Palter, is alleged to have paid $50,000 to kill Cecil the Lion, a popular feline among tourists in Zimbabwe. Palmer said that he relied on the expertise of his guides to ensure the hunt was legal.

According to the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, Cecil suffered a slow death.

The hunters lured him out of the park with a dead animal on top of a vehicle, the conservation group said.

Palmer then shot the lion with a crossbow, a method he commonly uses. But Cecil survived another 40 hours until the hunters tracked him down and shot him with a gun, reports the group.

The killing of the lion has sparked a nationwide outrage. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel devoted an entire segment of his show to condemn the shooting.

“The big question is ‘why are you shooting a lion in the first place?’” said Kimmel. “How is that fun?”
