Cecile Richards — president of Planned Parenthood — told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell on Monday that the recent videos alleging that the non-profit is selling aborted fetus organs for profit on the black market are part of a “10 year campaign” that “is all about denying women access to birth control.”

Richards also stated that the “heavily edited videos” were aimed at entrapping doctors working for the 99-year-old organization in doing something wrong, “which they were not.”

RICHARDS: What this is all about, Andrea, is politics… What’s important to understand is that this is aimed at denying women in this country access to health care… birth control, cancer screenings, testing and treatment. For many women, Planned Parenthood is their only doctor… Planned Parenthood operates like all other hospitals that do fetal tissue donations. There were no laws broken. We have the highest medical and ethical standards, and I would emphasize, these folks spent three years trying to entrap doctors, and they were completely unsuccessful. I do think it’s important to remember, the group behind this, they are not a medical group. They are not about women’s healthcare. They are completely focused on ending access to legal abortion in this country, and they have been behind a 10 year campaign to end access to Planned Parenthood healthcare for women in America.
