Former Senator Rick Santorum has released a radio ad titled “Take Back America”, which features its namesake a country tune. However, according to Eric Holder and President Obama, this is the rhetoric of racists.

Back in 2011, Ken Walsh of U.S. News published a piece about Obama and race. In it, Walsh writes,

“A guest suggested that when Tea Party activists said they wanted to “take back” their country, their real motivation was to stir up anger and anxiety at having a black president, and Obama didn’t dispute the idea. He agreed that there was a “subterranean agenda” in the anti-Obama movement—a racially biased one—that was unfortunate. But he sadly conceded that there was little he could do about it.”

This means that not only does he think the Santorum has a “subterranean agenda”, but so does his running mate Joe Biden. Last September during a speech in Detroit, Vice President Biden suggested it was “time to take back America” and that if we didn’t “America’s in trouble.”

Former U.S Attorney General Eric Holder also agrees with President Obama that critics must have some sort of racist bone in their body, telling ABC back in July 2014, “There’s a certain level of vehemence, it seems to me, that’s directed at me [and] directed at the president. You know, people talking about taking their country back… There’s a certain racial component to this for some people. I don’t think this is the thing that is a main driver, but for some there’s a racial animus.”

This isn’t the only potentially offensive language used by Santorum. In an email to supporters from his campaign it says, “It’s critical voters, far and wide, hear my message for taking back America for hardworking families.” Though according to University of California, phrases such as “hard worker” are euphemisms for “bias”.
