A man who allegedly murdered his 73-year-old housemate and almost got away with it was caught after a pair of tattoos gave him away two years later.

Danei Washington Gordon was on his bicycle weaving in and out of traffic when he pulled up next to a U.S. Marshal officer. The officer glanced over and noticed a pair of familiar tattoos on Gordon’s arm.

Gordon was arrested for the April 2013 death of Neville Smith in which he allegedly smashed Smith in the head with a red hot frying pan, CBS4 reports.

His name was tattooed on his arm, and he had another tattoo of a musical clef symbol that the officer recognized.

“In cases like this, a heinous crime, you never give up working. No matter where you go and no matter what state you have run to, we are going to keep working to find you,” U.S. Marshal Service Senior Inspector and spokesman Barry Golden told CBS4. “The feeling is great after capturing a suspect who committed this heinous crime and being able to bring him back to Miami. It also brings a lot of closure to the family, to track this person down, arrest him and bring him back to Miami where he will stand trial.”

Gordon is a Jamaican national. He and his mother were living with Smith when Gordon allegedly hit Smith in the head with a hot frying pan, killing him. Police have been searching for him for two years with no luck until now.

“My dad was everything,” said Smith’s daughter Joi Crockett. “I just recently had another child and he’ll never know his grandfather. I have my older son who I constantly try to remind him who is grandfather is, so he will not forget him.”
