The House Judiciary Committee will hold its first Planned Parenthood hearing next week, as it continues an in-depth investigation into allegations the organization is violating federal abortion and fetal tissue laws.

The hearing is quite aggressively titled: “Planned Parenthood Exposed: Examining the Horrific Abortion Practices at the Nation’s Largest Abortion Provider.”

Committee members will question a panel of experts about the details of late-term abortions, what, if anything, is involved in altering an abortion to harvest fetal organs, and the history of laws regarding what the committee calls “these barbaric practices.” (RELATED: Ninth Video: Intact Fetuses ‘Just Fell Out’)

CMP has released a series of undercover videos in which top Planned Parenthood doctors discuss fetal tissue harvesting, along with whistleblower testimony about the trauma she experienced harvesting fetuses in the clinics.

The committee is investigating whether Planned Parenthood violated the federal law that prohibits partial-birth abortions and the killing of infants born alive, as well as the history of enforcement of those laws and whether they are “sufficient.” (RELATED: Planned Parenthood Allegations Turn On Squishy McConnell-Backed Law)

“Planned Parenthood and its executives must answer for the alleged atrocities brought to light in the videos by the Center for Medical Progress,” Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte and Subcommittee Chairman Trent Franks said in a statement Wednesday announcing the hearing.

The committee has demanded a Department of Justice investigation, and has sent letters to 58 Planned Parenthood affiliates demanding details about abortion practices at their clinics.

The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 10:30 a.m.

Goodlatte and Franks added in the statement that the hearing is part of the Judiciary Committee’s “commitment to fighting for the rights of the unborn.”
