Carly Fiorina said Thursday that she initially laughed when she heard derogatory comments Donald Trump made about her face in a Rolling Stone interview. She also says she doesn’t believe her fellow GOP presidential candidate when he says that he was talking about her personality and not her looks.

“This is part of a pattern, isn’t it, where he says things and then tries to explain why he said that,” Fiorina said during an interview on “The Howie Carr Show” Thursday afternoon.

“I don’t spend a lot of time trying to figure out why he says what he says.”

During an interview with Rolling Stone published on Wednesday, Trump said of Fiorina, a former CEO at Hewlett-Packard:

Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?! I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not s’posedta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?

“Honestly, I laughed,” Fiorina told Carr when asked how she responded after hearing about Trump’s remarks. She said her husband laughed as well.

Trump denied during an interview on CNN Thursday morning that he was talking about Fiorina’s physical appearance.

“I’m not talking about her looks. I’m talking about her persona,” he told CNN’s Chris Cuomo.

Asked if she believes Trump’s explanation, Fiorina said she does not.

“I think the words were clear, and I think now as he always does he’s trying to explain them away,” she told Carr.

“I really don’t spend a lot of time worrying about what Donald Trump thinks about my looks,” Fiorina added. “I do think I’m getting under his skin.”

Asked what she would say to Trump, Fiorina told Carr, “I’m not going to speak to him.”

“I think he takes up way too much oxygen as it is.”
