Texan tech billionaire Darwin Deason is asking for the return of millions in donations he made to the Opportunity and Freedom PAC now that former Gov. Rick Perry has taken himself out of the running for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

“We have made it clear we expect the PAC to shut down and send the funds back,” Deason’s son, Doug, told Politico.

Austin Barbour, the top operative at the organization, said the super PAC plans to give back the money.

“Our attorney advised us that the law does allow us to refund money to our large-dollar donors – like the Deasons,” he told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “We are talking with Mr. Deason at this time.  If he wants his contribution back we will send it back to him.”

Perry, the first major Republican candidate to announce he was ending his quest for the White House, cited an abuse-of-power indictment and his omission from the main stage at the first presidential debate as his reasons for quitting.

Deason told USA Today the former 2016 hopeful called him the evening before his announcement to inform him he planned to bow out of the race.

Sen. Ted Cruz’s camp is said to be courting the same donor. The Texas senator was seen having dinner with Deason late last week, CNN reports.
