Eddie Montgomery’s son died Sunday after being on life support in a Kentucky hospital.
“My son Hunter went to heaven today,” the singer said in a statement. “I appreciate all your prayers and love and thank you for giving us privacy as we grieve and say goodbye.”
Hunter, 19, had been in an accident that left him hospitalized, though it’s unclear what happened. A spokesman for the family said the details are being withheld “until the family is ready to release further information.”

Montgomery is one half of the country duo Montgomery Gentry.
Funeral arrangements for Hunter are pending.
