Police found 14 containers of human tissue that appears to be the remains of aborted fetuses in the trunk of a Detroit abortionist’s car.

The evidence suggests the doctor may have performed illegal abortions, reported local ABC News affiliate 7 Action News. Police are investigating the man, identified as practicing OB/GYN Michael Arthur Roth, but have not pressed charges.

The New York Times quoted Roth in a 1988 story about the ethics of abortions based solely on the sex of a fetus. “I have no ethical problems with it,” Roth told TheNYT. “Absolutely not. I think that abortion should be available on demand.” (RELATED: Senate Dems Block 20 Week Abortion Ban)

Police allegedly found 14 unmarked containers of human tissue, medical equipment and large amounts of the painkiller Fentanyl in Roth’s car. The police were executing a search warrant based on a separate investigation into Roth for allegedly running over and critically injuring a special needs child.

Police obtained the warrant for the car’s “black box” data recorder, and were searching the trunk of his impounded car, when they came across the unmarked containers of human tissue and medical equipment. They also found the painkillers in the passenger side console. Anonymous sources told 7 Action News there were no medical records in the car.

Roth has a history of alleged malpractice, public records obtained by abortiondocs.org show. He agreed to pay $200,000 for botching an abortion, and another in which the Michigan Board of Medicine fined him $2,000 for violating public health code in two abortions and for perforating a woman’s uterus.

Roth was evicted from his office space twice, records show, and as of December, 2014, was reportedly out of business. His wife filed for a restraining order against him as they went through a divorce in 2005.

Roth’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
