An increase of Americans are finding Joe Biden likable while former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has seen her image ratings plummet since March, a new survey found.

Forty-nine percent of those polled said they have a positive view of the vice president, up from 39 percent since last spring, while 37 percent gave him an unfavorable rating.

Another recent poll shows more people viewed the former secretary of state in a negative light than not; 41 percent gave her a favorable rating while 51 percent said they have an unfavorable view of the 2016 hopeful. Clinton has been plagued with scrutiny over her ongoing email scandal, which many attribute to her dip in approval ratings.

Among Democrats, Biden far surpasses Clinton and her Democratic primary rival Bernie Sanders with an 85 percent favorability rating followed by 51 percent and 38 percent respectively.

“Another reason Biden’s favorable may be higher is that many Democrats want to see Biden enter the presidential campaign,” Gallup said. “They may think the Democratic party needs an alternative to its weakened front runner, Hillary Clinton, whom Americans currently view more negatively than positive.”

The vice president has been mulling over whether to seek the Democratic nomination, but despite a push from donors and supporters, has been taking his time on making a decision after the death of his son, former Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, in May.

The polling organization said the upswing in his ratings may be partially be due to his status as a non-candidate.

The results were based on phone interviews of a random sampling of 1,015 adults from Oct. 7-11, and leaves a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4 percent.
