Chris Christie opened himself up to some Internet mockery after he tweeted that he didn’t know how to get around The New York Times’ online paywall.

The Times had taken a shot at Christie with an article by its editorial board Thursday urging him to drop out of the race for the Republican nomination, saying his campaign was nothing more than a “vanity project” for the New Jersey governor.

Christie responded by saying he wasn’t going anywhere, and that he wasn’t able to read their article anyway because of their subscriber paywall:

As Twitter users were quick to point out, though, the Times’ paywall can be easily avoided, by opening an incognito browser, clearing cookies, or finding the article in Google News.

Some had crueler suggestions for the New Jersey governor:

Another user, Huffington Post political reporter Jason Linkins, “helped” Christie by tweeting parts of the article at him in 140-character bits.

The Times, for its part, decided not to help out Christie and thereby expose the flimsiness of their paywall. Instead, they gave Christie a link to their subscriptions page:

Christie had little time for that, though:
