Appearing on MSNBC’s “MTP Daily” Wednesday, Graham said Russia could “care less” when he was asked by Chuck Todd about the possible impact on Russia’s intervention in Syria due to an ISIS linked terrorist attack taking down a Russian passenger jet.
Graham downplayed the consequences for Russia if ISIS is linked to the terrorist attack suggesting, “It’s laughable when I hear people saying, ‘Oh, Russia is in a bad spot.’ Russia is going to have a warm water port, they’re going to have an air base, they’re going to have control over Damascus, because if it’s not Assad, it will be some puppet of Iran and Russia controlling Syria.”
“It’s not like they don’t care about their people,” insisted Graham. “But the equation here that somehow Russia’s going to back off and leave their interests, abandon their interests in Syria because of this terrorist attack is really laughable.”
Graham explained that Russia has “4,000 troops on the ground to make sure their puppet, Assad stays in power. And they’ve killed the people we’ve trained to take him out of power. So wonder who is going to win the negotiations in Geneva?”
