Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum is suffering from “severe laryngitis” his campaign said Monday, but still plans to participate in this week’s undercard debate in Milwaukee.

To rest up ahead of the Fox Business-sponsored debate, Santorum canceled a planned Monday night speech in Michigan.

“However, in order to speak loudly in support of hardworking American families in Tuesday evening’s debate, the campaign decided it was best that the Senator rest his voice on Monday,” the campaign said.

Santorum tweeted Monday: “If Michael Jordan can have his NBA Finals Flu Game, then I can have my Laryngitis Presidential Debate.”

Santorum will face-off with New Jersey Gov. Christie, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal in an earlier debate Tuesday, ahead of the prime-time debate with the highest-polling Republican candidates.
