Hours after news broke that a Jeb Bush PAC planned to attack [crscore]Marco Rubio[/crscore] for being too pro-life, Rubio’s campaign dropped a devastating ad on YouTube compiling instances where Bush praised Rubio.

Bush is seen saying “I’m a huge Marco fan” and “He’s probably the most articulate conservative on the scene today” in the 30-second video that was posted Tuesday.

“What Marco has, I think, is something that the Republican party needs to have which is a hopeful optimistic message based on our principles,” Bush says in the video.

A clip in the ad also shows Bush saying “I’m so proud of his high voltage energy,” which is especially ironic because Bush has been repeatedly criticized for being low energy.

The New York Times reported Monday that a frantic Bush campaign was about to begin attacking Rubio, who could realistically replace him as the candidate with establishment support while still retaining favor with the conservative base. The Times reporter spoke with Bush aides who are “seething with anger and alarmed” over Rubio’s rapid growth in the polls. That growth has been met simultaneously with Bush’s decline.

The Bush-supporting $100 million Right To Rise PAC reportedly expressed they are willing to spend up to $20 million attacking Rubio and have already prepared an ad targeting him for being too pro-life. Rubio is against abortion even in cases of rape and incest.

But that same New York Times article points out something the Rubio ad capitalizes on: despite Bush’s plan of attack, Bush himself said in 2012 that Rubio had “the intellectual acumen and the fortitude to be a good president.”
