As you read the following, try to open up your mind and consider the idea of Hillary Clinton and her campaign behaving like petty, paranoid, thin-skinned autocrats. Just for the purposes of hypothesis, mind you. Is such a thing possible?
Take the following with a grain of salt, as needed. Judicial Watch:
In what appears to be a first for a serious presidential contender, Hillary Clinton’s campaign is going after five comedians who made fun of the former Secretary of State in standup skits at a popular Hollywood comedy club.
A video of the short performance, which is less than three minutes, is posted on the website of the renowned club, Laugh Factory, and the Clinton campaign has tried to censor it. Besides demanding that the video be taken down, the Clinton campaign has demanded the personal contact information of the performers that appear in the recording. This is no laughing matter for club owner Jamie Masada…
Masada told Judicial Watch that, as soon as the video got posted on the Laugh Factory website, he received a phone call from a “prominent” person inside Clinton’s campaign. “He said the video was disgusting and asked who put me up to this,” Masada said. The Clinton staffer, who Masada did not want to identify, also demanded to know the names and phone numbers of the comedians that appear in the video. Masada refused and hung up.
Here’s the video. It has some bad words, if you’re sensitive about that sort of thing. And it contains mockery of a Democrat, if you’re really sensitive about that sort of thing.
As you’ll note, the jokes mainly center around the long-standing rumor that Hillary Clinton is a lesbian.*
I have no idea if she is or not, and I don’t really care. The less time I think about her sex life, or that of any Clinton, the better. On the list of all the reasons not to vote for Hillary Clinton, her choice of preferred genitalia is around 57 billion.
But I do care about a presidential candidate trying to silence mockery. Hillary is a great admirer of Saul Alinsky, and she’s very familiar with Rule #5 in his Rules for Radicals: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” You can’t defend yourself against a mean joke without giving the joker what he (or she!) wants. All you can do is sit there and be humiliated.
Unless you’re an enormously rich, powerful, and vindictive presidential candidate with an army of lackeys scouting out any possible dissent for you.
Is that what happened here? If so, Jamie Masada needs to tell us who this unnamed “prominent Clinton staffer” is. If he won’t, then forget him. He’s just some comedy-club owner trying to drum up publicity.
But if Masada does name the staffer, he (not she!) needs to explain what’s wrong with the First Amendment.
If — if — Hillary’s campaign is pulling this kind of crap now, can you even imagine how she’ll go after dissidents if she manages to weasel her way back into the White House? I can, and it’s not at all funny.
*Also, that she’s old as hell. And that at least one of her ancestors was a whore. But these are just facts.
